Coo-coo for Coco Puffs

Wow, this guy is bat shit insane.

I would bet that dude has some issues internally. From what little I know of Iran, the Iranian people would like to have more interactions with the West. They are not huge fans of their own government. The prospects of boycotts from the nuclear problem may not be playing well in the street. Yeah, its "Death to America", but their hearts aren't really in it. "Seriously, have you seen how thin the Ipod Nano is. I can totally take all my Queen albumns everywhere I go. Great Satan, yeah. How many Rial's is that?"

So, when in trouble, you need to rally the base - and nothing rallies the base like Anti-Semitism. That has to be in nation ruling 101. This is how you give a speech, this is how you pose for your ubiquitious posters, this is how you condem the elders of Zion for the fact the national soccer team got a bad draw. . .

In other news, the first thing you get on a Google search for Coco puffs is: Marijuana and Cocaine.

I actually saw something interesting on TPM, I think, regarding this. Iran dude wants nukes not just to piss off the US, but to change the balance of power in the Middle East between Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Those other Middle Eastern governments will not be so pleased to see Iran with nukes. However, if Iran makes it seem that they want the nukes to blow up Israel -- well, the Egyptians and the Saudis can’t complain about that, can they? Their people would never stand for it. Pretty wild, eh?

As far as the Iranian people not really hating us that much. A few things. First, there is an intellectual class there – many left over from the Shah’s days. Secondly, there are relationships on a personal level between Americans and Iranians from the Shah’s days that do not exist in Iraq for example. While these relationships are getting old, I think they still exist. The Iranians didn’t like the Shah, but there were some things that they did like about the closer ties to the US – Queen being one of those things. Additionally, I have read a few travelogues to Iran and they all have said something like “Its really weird, there are these Death to America signs everywhere, but everyone is really nice, friendly and wants to talk about life in America. They like America, just not our government.” Sean Penn did a piece for the Chronicle a while back. Lastly, there is/was a big reform movement a while back – they pulled all the reform candidates from the slate. The mullah’s crushed it, but I think there may be sparks there.

Now why do the people of Iran stand for mr. nukeynuts? People everywhere have problems being consistent and rational. In their mind’s this all makes sense. One day they get all riled up about nuking Israel, the next they are pissed that they can’t download the new Eminem CD. Heck, the same thing happens here all the time. We all want lower taxes and universal heath care.
